Golden Trail (The 'Burg, #3)

Golden Trail (The 'Burg, #3) - Kristen Ashley 3 stars...“What am I gonna do with you, Raquel Merrick?” “Anything you want, Layne, as long as you’re with me when you do it.” If you're familiar with Kristen Ashley books you know they're long... like crazy long but most of the time this doesn't faze her rabid fans and we blow through them because the content is there, it's fascinating to read and you have these emotional connections to the characters right off the bat. “The third time, you said, you needed Atticus,” he stated and her head and hand came up but only so she could rest her chin on her hand in his chest and look at him. “What?” “In class today, you said the third time you read To Kill a Mockingbird, you needed Atticus,” he felt her body get tight and he pushed, “when was that?” “Layne –” “When was that?” “I don’t –” His hand twisted in her hair and his other arm went around her, pulling her up his chest so they were face to face. “When was that?” he repeated. She was silent and this silence spread. Then she whispered, “When I lost my real-life version of him.” “Jesus,” Layne whispered back instantly. Well, with Golden Trail that didn't happen, I mean I felt and connections right away with Rocky and Tanner but parts of this book felt like filler. Too much description of what should just be glassed over. Also the plot line revolved around something major happening to Roc to make her run from Tanner 18 years ago, leaving them both broken and damaged. I felt that the reasoning behind this was lacking in ever way. One of my pet peeves when reading Contemporary Romance is when couples don't talk shit out. They run, hid, strick out at each other before ever really understand why. That's why in Golden Trail, when this storyline was drawn out through the whole book it became old and really just annoying. This is not the strongest book in the series by any means. It does have snippets of our favorite burg characters living the good and beautiful life. “You weren’t scared of the dark twenty years ago, honey.” “No, I wasn’t,” she whispered again. “Because you were there.”I did enjoy reading Layne's relationship with Tripp and Jasper his sons. Tanner made some mistakes in the past and he's honest with his boys, too honest IMO at times but that's another discussion. He's trying to ment those fences and bring his family back together. Teaching Jasper to hold out of right women, to treat her right, take care of her body and soul in ways on he can. “It’s good she hooked up with me, she such a nut, she needs a badass to take her back.” Like the rest of the Burg seres, Golden Trail has an element of suspense. This was just disturbing, not that I know in real life these kinds of things happen but I honestly don't want to read about pedophiles in my Romance novels. kind of ruins the mood. Kristen Ashley is still one of my favorite authors and I cannot wait to read the fourth book in the Burg Series. This one just didn't do it for me...
